Madame Bovary- Meeting May 29th

Thanks for participating. I hope you enjoyed it and got something from it. Jake has made his pick and I must say I am shocked a guy picked it, but it looks really good. So have a wonderful month and we will talk to you all on the 29th of this month.

Ok the first meeting is set for May 1st at 8:30 pm Mountain. Come prepared to discuss your favorite characters, criticisms, and anything else. And make sure you have Skype installed and ready to go! See you then.

PS If you have finished you can get started on Jake’s pick for May. It looks good.

Book Club Meeting

Ok,

     We need to decide when we are having the meeting. We also need to know who all is participating this month. So if you could post and let me know what days/times are best for you we can make a final decision asap. If you do not respond to this post I will assume that you are not reading the book this month and don’t care when we get together to talk about it. So happy reading and writing.

The Lies of Locke Lamora

Ok I just finished this yesterday. I agree with Jake, the language mellows out as the book goes on (but then picks up a bit at the end) but beyond that it is very good-please no cow dung in brownies comments. So, if you haven’t started or are offended by tha language I am sorry. It can sometimes happen when you pick something you have never read. But the language is the only issue and it didn’t really bother me since it fit with the type of people they are. I should probably save some of this for the actual meeting, but just wanted to let everyone know that it is really good from start to finish!

Also we need to decide when a good time to do the meeting would be for everyone. So, if you you have preferences let me know so I can schedule it. For me, anytime the kids are in bed could be good. Fri, Sat, or Sun are the best days although if we did it during the week as long as the kids are in bed we could do it too.  I am thinking if we can agree on a good day for everyone, we can set that day aside every month i.e., the last Sat of every month at 8:00pm Mountain. Or something like that. Anyway let me know what you think.

Updates

I am trying to keep this site updated and fun. I have added a daily poetry page where I will post a poem every day. Feel free to comment if you like it or you don’t. I love the tirades of poetry haters. In addition, Ben is picking the book tonight so be ready to start reading. Again, thanks for joining and I hope this can be a fun experience for everyone.

This is your resource for all things ABC. The main purpose of the club is to promote critical reading among its members. Hopefully it can also be a catalyst for creative thought, which will in turn improve our writing prowess. We will be reading one book a month, with no specific genre. Just whatever you think is good or want to read. The meeting will be held on the last friday of the month at 8:30pm MT. We will be using Skype unless the club gets too big. You’ll have to bring your own munchies, but we will provide the rest.
